Foresight AI, the water infrastructure intelligence company using advanced machine learning and engineering simulation to predict pipe failure and optimise water networks, has closed its seed investment round from Momenta, the Industrial Impact® venture capital firm.
The funding marks the formal launch of Foresight AI following the acquisition of the technology, IP and platform assets of Datatecnics Corporation.
Foresight AI builds on seven years of award-winning research and development at the University of Sheffield’s Pennine Water Group and the University of Exeter’s Centre for Water Systems – two global leaders in water engineering research.
The company’s platform provides utilities and industrial customers with new levels of network visibility and predictive capability through three core modules: Failure Indicator, Leak Response, and Ground Truth, a digital twin system powered by proprietary multi-parameter sensing hardware and finite-element models of buried water mains.
A Transformative Market Moment
Water utilities today face mounting pressure from rising leakage rates, climate-driven volatility, aging buried infrastructure, and increasing regulatory scrutiny. In many countries, including the UK, high-quality drinking water is projected to face severe availability constraints within the next decade – 7 out of 17 regions in England are set to experience severe water stress by 2030, rising to 12 by 2034. Foresight AI’s platform directly addresses this challenge for global utilities through high-resolution network intelligence, operational decision support, and advanced prediction of asset behaviour.
A New Chapter for Predictive Water Infrastructure
The investment by Momenta will support Foresight AI in commercialising its technology in a venture-ready vehicle capable of scaling to international markets. The acquisition of Datatecnics’ assets and operations will ensure that Foresight AI will continue to deliver on Datatecnics’ existing customer commitments and maintain strategic partnerships with its key ecosystem partners, ensuring continuity and minimal disruption.
